Inserts are listed in order of absorbency. It is based on manufacturer absorbency ratings and personal experience. The chart is comparing size Large, Med/Large, or One Size.

In general, microfiber absorbs more quickly and holds a lot, but wetness can be squeezed out with compression (like a sponge). Microfiber is a man-made material made of 80% polyester/20% polyamide. It may lose it's plushness over time, but doesn't wear out/get holes like cotton/hemp does.  It is usually fairly inexpenisve and easy to care for.

Hemp tends to absorb more slowly, but once it absorbs it can hold a lot and doesn't leak out with compression. Hemp is a natural fiber and is better for the environement since it is grown without pesticides and is unbleached. Hemp is also anti-microbial. Since it is a natural fiber it will wear out faster than microfiber, just like your cotton t-shirts will wear out faster than a polyester shirt. It tends to cost more than microfiber and it does need to be washed several times on hot prior to first use to become absorbent. Unlike microfiber or any man-made material, hemp is natural and completely recyclable since it will eventually breakdown into its natural components.
